The 850-year-old Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris burned on an April 15 evening. The burning places will be rebuilt, even if this can not replace the old one.
According to the news prosecutors have ruled out the possibility of arson. Caroline Bruzelius, a professor of art history at Duke University, said that this type of fire is likely to happen on wooden rooftops of the cathedrals. “Most of the visitors don't see this, but there were about sixty thick planks that supported the roof of the cathedral. So there was a timber forest between the vaults and the roof. These were old, dry and porous.”
Actually the whole country is also sensitive, old, dry and porous... The Charlie Hebdo case, the truck attack in Nice, white conical hats, yellow vests... Liberté, égalité, fraternité...These are old terms. There is a fear about the name change of Paris, as Lenin changed Petrograd to Leningrad, or Stalin who made a Stalingrad from Volgograd.
Suddenly, I remembered the Turkish Tobacco Control Program's meeting held in Antalya, in 2015. Some participants were smoking during breaks. There was a willing professor at our group. He was a serious participiant. Some of his relatives died from a tobacco-related disease. The others? They were smoking.
Many countries' flags have similar designs, similar colors. The flags of Russia, Slovakia and Slovenia look alike. When you put the them side by side, there is an approval between them. One confirms the other. French and Dutch flags are similar too. Countries follow each other. They save the day, smoke together. And tolerance declines, xenophobia spreads...
According to one theory, in Proto-Slavic, the words used in exchange of "pine" and "oak" were taken from other languages. That gives us a hint about the ancient Slavs, and where they came from... A land of no pines and oaks.
What is there for France instead of "pine" and "oak"? How do we define "the French one"? With a timber forest of invisible between the vaults and the roof? With great minorities belonging to another place and another culture? Should France face her fears?
